It was a special evening at Éire Óg GAA club last Saturday as they unveiled their Éire Óg Legacy Wall and Walkway, a landmark project celebrating 70 years of community, commitment and club pride.

The Legacy Wall is a permanent commemorative monument that enables players, members, supporters and families to purchase a personalised plaque recognising their lifelong connection to Éire Óg. It honours generations of dedication, volunteering, participation and family history, ensuring that the stories and contributions of those who have shaped our club are preserved for future generations.

The new community walkway, is a major enhancement to the club's facilities made possible through funding of €117,000 from the Community Recognition Fund.

The walkway was officially launched by Councillor Fintan Phelan and it marked another important milestone in the club's commitment to improving its facilities for members and the wider Carlow community.

The walkway project forms a key part of the Éire Óg Club Development & Facilities Five-Year Development Plan, which sets out a clear vision for creating modern, accessible and inclusive facilities that will benefit current and future generations.

The new walkway provides a safe, accessible and welcoming space for people of all ages to walk, exercise and enjoy the club grounds. While it will enhance the experience for Éire Óg members, it has also been designed as a valuable community amenity, encouraging healthy lifestyles, social connection and outdoor activity for the wider public.

The investment reflects the club's commitment to developing facilities that serve not only its playing members but also the broader community, ensuring that the club continues to be a place where people can come together to be active, meet friends and enjoy a safe outdoor environment.

"The completion of our new walkway is a significant achievement for Éire Óg and for the wider Carlow community. We are extremely grateful for the €117,000 awarded through the Community Recognition Fund, which has enabled us to deliver a facility that will benefit our members while also creating a welcoming space for people of all ages in the local community. This project is an important part of our Five-Year Club Development Plan and demonstrates our commitment to investing in facilities that promote health, wellbeing and community participation for years to come.

"I would also like to sincerely thank the members of the Club Development & Facilities Committee for their dedication, commitment and countless voluntary hours throughout this project. Their hard work, along with the support of our volunteers and wider club community, has been instrumental in turning this vision into a reality. This walkway is something the entire community can be proud of, and we look forward to seeing it enjoyed by members and visitors alike for many years to come."

Éire Óg CLG gratefully acknowledged the support of the Irish Government through the Department of Rural and Community Development's Community Recognition Fund, administered locally by Carlow County Council. This investment has made it possible to deliver a lasting community asset that will benefit both club members and the wider community for generations to come.
