AT the May meeting of Carlow Co Council, councillors voted down objections raised by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the National Transport Authority and the Office of the Planning Regulator to the rezoning of land in Tullow for development.

Cllr Ben Ward claimed that a lack of engagement by council staff across various departments had been getting worse

The announcement was made at a meeting of local councillors on 1 April.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Bagenalstown MD last week. 

It is the council's biggest challenge this year.

There was previously permission for 64 houses on the site.

THERE have been four refusals to date on the eight new social housing properties on Barrack Street, according to Carlow Co Council’s assistant executive officer for housing, Tadhg Madden.

OVER the course of 2026, Carlow Co Council will spend €24,000 on painting buildings on Tullow Street and Staplestown Road, continuing the success of the Streetscape Enhancement Scheme.

This was announced as part of a wider funding package from the Department of Transport

35 new units will be built on a currently vacant site on the N81.

The IFA, Carlow Chamber of Commerce and Carlow College submitted lobbying returns.

Carlow County Council was awarded funding for the structure under the Participation Nation Outdoor Fund.

The move comes after Storm Chandra flooded homes in parts of the county.

ESB delays have pushed back the delivery of some units in Tullowbeg.

“Councillors, I feel your frustration,” said CEO Coilín O’Reilly.

There has been a reduction in the number of complaints for dog fouling too.

The council promised to review it in 6 months. 

Cllrs mentioned the need to support the Irish diaspora in America.
