‘Taylor Swift’ and ‘Pogues’ lined up for Paddy’s day

“SAINT Patrick’s Day this year in Carlow, it’s going to be far bigger,” announced councillor Ken Murnane, cathaoirleach of Carlow Co Council, at the most recent meeting of the municipal district last week

“Last year, we had one stilt walker. This year, there’s four. Last year, we had one face painter, this year there’s three,” said cllr Murnane.

He noted there will be “impressive” street entertainers, buskers and a “far bigger than any parade that was ever in Carlow before”.

In terms of music, “one of the biggest attractions, seemingly, if I believe everything I’ve been told, there will be a Taylor Swift tribute act,” said the councillor. There will also be a Pogues tribute act, according to cllr Murnane.

“With all these new additions, we are hoping for an exceptionally good turnout, weather permitting.

“All I need is for Paula (O’Brien, director of services) to make sure the weather is fine,” he said to giggles from councillors.

To yet more laughter, Kieran Comerford, head of economic development and enterprise, pointed out “the director brings a ray of sunshine to all our lives”.
