A superb last quarter performance where they scored 3-3 clinched the Intermediate Hurling Championship title for Carlow Town at Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday.
It had been close in the first half with Dylan Townsend scoring ten points which included a side-line, three 65s, five frees and a point from play. It all helped Burren Rangers to take a 0-13 to 0-9 lead into the interval. Against the strong breeze, Karol English had kept Carlow Town in touch with his accuracy from placed balls.
For most of the third quarter, Burren Rangers looked like winners but Carlow Town found a way. Peter Lynch pounced when their opponents failed to clear their lines and his side had their first goal.
A rattled Burren Rangers struggled from there and when John Phiri passed to James Ingram, his fellow corner forward made no mistake from close range.
Carlow Town were pinching themselves at this stage but they didn’t let up. Hungry for the ball, they won many 50-50 battles and Lynch scored his second goal.
It got better as Phiri was rewarded when his persistence saw him guide the ball over the line for a fourth goal. By that stage the game was over and Carlow Town supporters were on a double celebration knowing they had secured senior championship hurling for 2027.
