Stranger sat into car and stole cash

Shamrock Plaza in Carlow

A STRANGER sat into a man’s car outside the Bank of Ireland branch in Carlow town while the owner was still in the driver’s seat and took a sum of money off the floor.

The brazen theft took place outside the bank at Shamrock Plaza on Monday 3 February at around 2.40pm.

The man was sitting in his car when a stranger came, sat into the car alongside him and took money that was in the footwell. The car owner then followed the thief as far as MacGamhna Road, where he saw him entering a house.

Gardaí in Carlow are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and are looking for CCTV or dashcam footage to be made available. Contact them on 059 9136620.

They are also appealing for information about an unrelated incident in which an attempt was made at stealing a car.

At around 3am on Friday morning, 31 January at the Mountain View estate in Pollerton, Carlow town, a car owner reported damage to the driver’s side door and to the plastic casing around the steering column. No property was taken so gardaí believe it was most likely an attempt to steal the car. If you have any information that could be of use, contact the gardaí on the number above.
