Carlow train station has been shrouded in scaffolding as Irish Rail carries out maintenance work to the stone work and roof of the 180-year-old building.
A spokesperson for Irish Rail said the works started in recent days and are expected to continue until mid-July.
Roofing and stone mason contractor CRS Contracts is repairing the fabric of the building and undertaking preventative maintenance works to the roof and adjacent stonework at Carlow Station, alongside Iarnród Éireann maintenance trade crews.
Rather than being a state-funded heritage project, the spokesperson said the work is part of Irish Rail's annual buildings maintenance budget.
He said train-users will not be affected by the work, but a small number of parking spaces will be temporarily out of use.
