Heating oil prices in Carlow increase by an average of 52% in the last 2 days

THE PRICE of 500L of heating oil in Carlow has increased by an average of 50% from 2 March 2026, to today, 4 March 2026.
On March 2 the average price for 500L of Kerosene in Carlow was €485, according to www.selectra.ie

This rise in the price of heating oil in Carlow is reflective of price rises nationally as the price of 500L of heating oil has increased from an average of €511 on 1 March to €844 on 4 March, according to www.cheapestoil.ie
Yesterday, 3 March, the average price of 500L heating oil across the country €698.16.
On March 2, Deputy George Lawlor, a Labour TD for Wexford, said, “I am already hearing of instances where home heating oil companies have increased their prices, seemingly in response to events in the Middle East over the weekend. This looks and feels like opportunism. These are outrageously profitable companies. They do not need an excuse to pad margins. The idea that global tensions become a green light for immediate price hikes for home heating oil is disgraceful.
“Government cannot sit back and hope the market sorts itself out. Ministers need to say clearly if there is evidence of price gouging, what they are going to do about it. Regulators must step in and Government must be prepared to act swiftly and decisively.”
A spokesperson for the Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke told Conor Pope of , on March 3 2026, that he had asked the CCPC to examine pricing to ensure there were no increases for consumers “which are not proportionate”.
