Go-ahead given for plan to refurbish former bank

The former Bank of Ireland premises at Athy Road, Carlow

THE PROPOSED renovation and refurbishment of the former Bank of Ireland premises at Court Place, Carlow was brought before the recent monthly meeting of the council.

Planned works were brought before the elected members under Part XI of the Planning and Development Act 2000 and Section 138 of the Local Government Act 2001.

Kieran Cullinane explained that there will be an open-plan office to facilitate 63 desks, seven private offices, reception, a meeting room and printing room. The report recommended a grant of commission guided by 18 conditions.

Independent councillor Will Patton asked the council CEO Coilín O’Reilly what he planned to do with the 63 desks.

Mr O’Reilly said the council was tight on space already and the renovation will allow them (employee room) to expand “a little bit”.

The plan was approved by councillors.
