CARLOW College has marked the retirement of Dr Margaret Murphy, vice-president for academic affairs and registrar, with a heartfelt celebration of her 16 years of dedicated service.
Dr Murphy joined the college as a lecturer in history before progressing to assistant registrar and ultimately vice-president for academic affairs and registrar.
A nationally recognised scholar, Dr Murphy is acclaimed for her teaching, research and publications in history.
Her commitment to scholarship continued alongside her demanding administrative roles, inspiring many students to pursue post-graduate research.
Dr Murphy’s leadership proved invaluable during the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring that academic programmes transitioned online without interruption.
Her calm, decisive approach gave confidence to staff and students alike during a challenging time.
Dr Murphy was honoured with a presentation and invited to cut a celebratory cake as colleagues wished her well in her retirement.
