COUNTY Carlow will be heaving with music, dance, food, films, storytelling and whatever you’re having yourself on Friday 19 September. That’s the date of this year’s Culture Night, a national festival that promotes culture in all genres and in Carlow, with 33 events scheduled to take place.

All of the events are free and can be found in community halls, venues or public spaces across Carlow’s towns and villages.

Leas-cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, councillor Daniel Pender, said: “This year’s programme is free, diverse, open and inclusive, and celebrates some of the very best cultural offerings from across the county. Culture Night invites everyone, everywhere on one joyful night to discover and celebrate all that our culture is today. With a rich and diverse programme from across the county we will see communities and artists come together, from history groups, musicians, storytellers, visual artists, theatre makers, performers, song writers, poets and screenwriters. Many of the events are family friendly and celebrate diversity, inclusion and just about every culture expression.”

Áine Donohoe, assistant arts officer, said: “All of this has been made possible with the support of local volunteer committees, huge commitment by local businesses and collaboration from across our cultural services that include our library services, arts, county museum, heritage, community and Visual Carlow. We also see some of our very best venues, from The Exchange to Spellman Hall, from Carlow Town Park to the libraries, local cafés, community centres, local organisations, local bars and businesses, working in partnership with one another to make this a great evening of inclusion, art, community and culture for all. Culture Night is more than just an evening, though; it is a countywide display of the importance of long-term and inclusive arts programmes and services in Carlow, which Carlow County Council Arts Service proudly supports.”
