Woman fined €450 for motoring offences at Carlow Court

A MOTORIST who reported her car stolen to Carlow Garda Station was later informed that it had, in fact, been seized by gardaí, Carlow District Court heard. Anne Breen was fined a total of €450 after being convicted in her absence of failing to display a tax disc and parking on a double yellow line.
The court was told that on 13 October 2025 at 9.15am, Garda Butler was on patrol at Montgomery Street, Carlow town, when he observed a Renault Megane parked on double yellow lines and obstructing an entrance. No tax disc was displayed on the vehicle and it was subsequently seized.
Ms Breen, who resides at 4 Mary B Mitchell Close, Arklow, Co Wicklow, later rang Carlow Garda Station to report that her car had been stolen, only to be informed that it had been seized by gardaí.
The court heard that a fixed-charge notice had been issued but went unpaid. Ms Breen has no previous convictions.
Judge Geraldine Carthy noted that the defendant had been notified twice and was not present in court. She convicted Ms Breen of failing to display a tax disc, fining her €300, and of parking on a double yellow line, fining her €150.
