Renovation of third Delta Centre in Carlow about to get underway

THE third Delta Centre will hopefully be opened by the end of the year after a contract for its construction was signed on Thursday afternoon, 2 July.
CEO of the Delta Centre, Joe Meany, said the company is “very excited” about the project.
The former Ulster Bank premises on Kennedy Avenue will be transformed into a day service location to accommodate approximately 25 service users.
Joe said the service will be “person-centred with activities of the service being led by the needs of the individuals availing of the service”. Some of the people who avail of services in Strawhall will be given the option to transfer to the Ulster Bank premises when it opens.
After a tender process, ABS Construction Ltd won the contract to renovate the new centre. It has been designed by Studio B. The project is expected to begin before the end of July and be completed by the end of the year.
“This will be our third day service location opening in Carlow town centre in three years and previous experience has informed that a town location with easy access to all community facilities is a real positive for individuals availing of our day services,” said Joe.
The name for the new centre will be chosen by the service users and staff. Joe thanked all the stakeholders involved in the process to date, including the HSE, who have supported this project.
“I envisage that when it opens it will be supporting people with disabilities in Carlow for many years to come,” said Joe.
