Great turnout for Ballinabranna road run fundraiser

VEHICLES of all shapes and sizes turned up at Ballinabranna GAA Club recently for a road run fundraiser in aid of Ballinabranna/Milford/Raheendoran Development Group, which supports a wide range of projects in the area.

Over €1,300 was raised through the road run and raffle, with prizes generously sponsored by Seamus O’Gorman, Farm Relief Services, Mart Garden Centre, Carlow Dental Centre and NutritionByKlara.

All money raised will go towards the local development group’s fund, as well as to Ballinabranna National School and the old school hall.

Organiser of the event Anthony Lowry said the road run follows on from last year’s fundraiser and said he hopes it will become an annual event.

“We give some of the funding every year to the national school in Ballinabranna and help them out with planting shrubs and flowers around the grounds and also the planting of any flowerpots and maintenance of hedges and trees around the Milford, Ballinabranna and Raheendoran area,” Anthony explained.

“We would like to mention Clogrennane Limeworks, who are very helpful to us every year, as well as all our local neighbours and community members who came out and supported on the day and throughout the year,” he said, adding that one person deserves special mention.

“We would also like to thank Reggie Matthews, who is a great man in the area and is always down around Milford cleaning and tidying. He has been at it for years and does everything he can for the area, and for that we are very grateful,” concluded Anthony.
