CARLOW Fire Service held a special farewell function recently for Aiden Owens, who is moving on to a new role with Kildare Fire and Rescue.
Aiden, who first joined Carlow Fire Service in 2008, three years after his older brother Alan, was honoured for almost 20 years of service to the community. Among those in attendance were Aiden’s wife Lorraine, his parents Jackie and Mai, extended family and friends and representatives from Bagenalstown, Tullow and Hacketstown fire stations.

Acting chief fire officer Ben Woodhouse was the MC as Aiden’s colleagues presented him with a range of gifts, including an engraved mounted fire axe and a firefighter figurine. Lorraine also received a flower arrangement from Mr Woodhouse.
Following his training, Aiden spent a number of years attending incidents around the county before returning to college, where he completed a degree in quantity surveying and engineering. He continued to work as a firefighter during this time and was later promoted to a driver position with the service.
He has since gained another promotion and is heading to neighbouring Kildare to take up the position of assistant chief fire officer.
All the best, Aiden.
