Carlow community mourns the death of the late Dr Chioma Ene, as funeral arrangements are announced

THE FUNERAL arrangements of the late Dr Chioma Ene have been announced.
Dr Chioma Ene of Bourlum Court, Green Road, Carlow, and formerly of Clonmel, Co Tipperary, Clondalkin Dublin and Enugu, Nigeria, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her home on 4 January 2026.
A doctor at St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny, Chioma was remembered by colleagues in the medical profession as a kind and joyful soul who brought so much to the world around her.
One of her former colleagues in the HSE, Vanessa Dowling, paid tribute on RIP.ie saying: 'So very sorry to hear about Dr Ene's sad passing. I had the pleasure of working with her in the past. Condolences to her family and friends at this sad time, especially thinking of her beloved daughter. The light of heaven to her, may she rest in peace.'
Another one of Chioma’s colleagues in the HSE, Dr Maeve Moran, wrote: 'Chioma worked with me as part of her training as a junior doctor. She had a wonderful personality empathetic and caring and full of fun. She spoke often of her beloved daughter. I am so shocked to hear this news. The world is a lesser place without Chioma. I am certain her kindness changed many lives for the better. I am thinking of her family and especially her beloved daughter at this time.'
Chioma was also remembered fondly by the community in Clonmel, where she previously lived, with many heartfelt condolences posted on Rip.ie from friends and neighbours in the Tipperary town.
The Clonmel Union of Parishes posted the following tribute: 'We were shocked and saddened when we heard of the sudden passing of Chioma who was, when she lived in Clonmel, a parishioner in Old St. Mary's Church. We remember her as warm and friendly with a fabulous smile, and she had a lovely soulful alto voice which greatly added to our small choir where she added her own harmonies to many of our hymns. Our thoughts and prayers are with her daughter Soni, her family. work colleagues and many friends. May Chioma rest in peace. ''Sleep on now and take your rest'' Matthew 26:45'
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Beloved mother of Bisona Ene-Ngati, treasured sister of Emeka Ene, Ebele Ene, Ibe Ene and Oke Ene, cherished daughter of the late Professor John C Ene and late Dr Mrs Ngozi Ene and treasured niece of Dr Dan Ene (representing the Canon Ene Family), Rtd Justice Lewechi Onwuchekwa and Prof (Mrs) Oluokwukwe Nwana (representing the Onwuchekwa family).
Chioma will be deeply missed by her loving daughter, brothers, sisters, brother-in-law Wolfgang Niesielski, sisters-in-law Ijeoma Ene and Tochi Ene, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends.
Resting at Carpenters Funeral Home Shamrock Sq., Carlow (Eircode R93 C863) on Friday, January 23rd from 5pm until 7pm that evening.
Removal from there on Saturday morning at 10.30am, to the St Mary’s Church, Castlehill, Carlow, (Eircode R93 YW77) arriving for Funeral Service at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carlow.
The family of the late Dr. Chioma Ene would be grateful for your presence at refreshments in the Church of Ireland Community House, Haymarket, Carlow (Eircode R93 E103), immediately after the burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carlow, as they gather in remembrance and comfort.
