Fantastic turnout for Culture Night right across the county

Áine, Aoife, Grace and Madison were all smiles during Culture Night in Tullow

A FEAST of events took place all over Carlow as the county thoroughly embraced the annual Culture Night.

The night was a huge success, with an incredible 41 events taking place in Carlow town, Tullow, Bagenalstown and Borris involving a huge number of musicians, artists and community groups.

Culture Night invited everyone, everywhere on one joyful night to discover and celebrate all that our culture is today.

The rich and diverse programme from across the county saw communities and artists come together from history groups, musicians, storytellers, visual artists, theatre makers, performers, songwriters, poets and screenwriters.

Many of the events were family friendly and celebrate diversity, inclusion and a rich tapestry of arts and culture across the county.

The night also marked the 15th birthday of Visual Carlow, with an action-packed programme taking place in the centre throughout the evening.

“Carlow County Council Arts Service in partnership with The Arts Council takes a ground-up approach working with all our communities and brilliant artists and musicians along with venues, businesses, local committees and organisations across the entire county.

“Huge thank you to you all for making Culture Night Carlow another fantastic, open, accessible great night,” said a spokesperson for Carlow Arts Office.

Local company Creative Productions also premiered its first short film
on Culture Night in IMC Carlow. The film showcases the exceptional talents of local actors Rory Moran and Julien Jully and is directed by award-winning playwright and poet Darren Donohue.
Among the organisations involved were Carlow County Council Community Information, Carlow Public Participation Network (PPN), Bagenalstown Improvement Group, Develop Tullow Association Clg, Carlow County Library, Carlow County Museum, Take A Part Carlow and Visual Carlow.

Speaking to
, Tullow Culture Night committee, in association with the Develop Tullow Association and the Cairdeas Centre, extended its heartfelt thanks to all residents and visitors to Tullow, who attended the various Culture Night events on 20 September.
“We are especially grateful to our volunteers, helping to make the night a memorable success. The evening was filled with exciting activities, including food tasting by Murphy’s Butchers, a magical performance of Tullow’s myths, and a traditional session in JJ’s Bar.

“Other highlights included Culture Crafts with Sandy, performances by the Coláiste Eoin Band and an African drumming workshop, Tullow Men’s Shed, the Wild Spirit performance and tea-tasting experiences.”
