WITH the blessing of Fr Tom Little, the Carlow Day Care Centre vehicle run fundraiser took off on Sunday afternoon, 5 July.

Bridgett O’Shea, who was on the organising committee, said the weather was “absolutely fantastic” and the event was “very successful – it was really well supported”.

Around 30 vehicles, including tractors, vintage cars, trucks of all sorts, showed up and other people came afterwards to support the raffle and enjoy the entertainment. Johnny Walsh provided fantastic live music in the afternoon.

The event was made possible by the involvement of the Irish Vintage Society, chaired by Tom Pender, the bus driver for the day care centre. They brought volunteers to help with registration and marshaling, said Bridgett.

She thanked Julie Brophy from Carlow Co Council and the gardaí for the “smooth” process in having the event approved, the organising committee, which included Tom, Bridgett, Rosie Brennan, Hilary Madden and Agnes Noud and all the staff at the day care centre.

The money raised will help with kitting out the new day care centre premises on Tullow Road, explained Bridgett. Following a three-week closure at the end of July, the centre will move into the “fantastic new space” beside Lidl.
