“THE sunshine got a move on” the opening of Oak Park playground, said councillor Fintan Phelan, after enjoying a sun-filled trip to the new play area at the weekend.

The playground at the forest park was closed for several months while the existing metal play frames were removed and replaced with timber frame structures and a new floor surface. An accessible mini basketball court was also installed. Ahead of the sunny weekend, Carlow MD unceremoniously removed the barriers that surrounded the playground so that children could benefit from it.

Cllr Phelan described the playground on Saturday morning as packed with kids, parents and families, who also availed of the picnic benches beside the park and the coffee box at the entrance to the walk.

The playground being open “makes a massive difference,” said cllr Phelan. “It’s hugely welcome, it’s a great amenity for the area.”
