NEARLY 70 employees at pharmaceutical company MSD Carlow have donated over 600 hours of their time to local charities and community groups as part of the company’s annual volunteering initiative.

The volunteers supported three key local organisations during MSD’s second annual All-Ireland Volunteering Week, which took place across all the company’s Irish locations. Staff worked with Carlow Climate Action Group, Carlow Tidy Towns and the Kildare and West Wicklow SPCA on projects ranging from environmental clean-ups to animal care.

At the climate action group, MSD volunteers helped to organise local clean-ups and awareness events promoting sustainability. They also contributed to Carlow Tidy Towns by planting and maintaining public green spaces throughout the town. Meanwhile, other staff members assisted the KWSSPCA with animal care duties and shelter maintenance work.

The Carlow effort was part of a wider national initiative that saw MSD employees across Ireland volunteer more than 3,000 hours collectively, supporting 25 community and charity organisations nationwide.

Eva Gallagher, site lead at MSD Carlow, said giving back to the community was central to the company’s values. “We’re proud to support local organisations doing vital work and helping to create lasting, positive change,” she said. “Our annual volunteering week gives our team the chance to connect with the people and places around us.”

The company provides dedicated time during the working week for employees to volunteer with local causes, with Ms Gallagher expressing enthusiasm for continuing to build partnerships with community organisations.

The volunteering week represents part of MSD’s broader community engagement strategy, allowing staff to make meaningful contributions to local initiatives while strengthening ties between the pharma company and the people of Carlow.
