Education minister Hildegarde Naughton speaking to pupils at St Joseph's NS
MINISTER for education and youth Hildegarde Naughton officially opened a new parents’ room recently at St Joseph’s National School.
The minister was joined by local TDs Catherine Callaghan and Natasha Newsom Drennan. Principal Fergal Browne welcomed guests to the school, including staff, pupils, members of the board of management and parents.
Principal Browne also paid tribute to contractor Jimmy Cahill of Cahill Crafts Ltd, who, he said, delivered the project on time and under budget.
“The parent room is a great resource for the school and is mainly for use by parents in the school who work with the home school community liaison Jenny Heally. Many other groups use the room, too, and this will benefit the wider school community,” he said.
The principal described the project as a cost-effective and ideal solution for the school’s needs. He explained that in addition to being a parents’ room where meetings could take place as well as advice sessions and for delivering courses, it will also be available for hosting after-school activities such as the school’s draughts team practice.

During the ceremony, minister Naughton made a presentation to HSCL Ms Heally in recognition of her work. A pupil from the school also presented the minister with two mugs crafted by local potter Jim Behan.
