Woodland show draws crowds despite the weather

THE recent Ireland Woodland Show, held at Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum in Inistioge, was a great success as people from all over the country travelled to Kilkenny to witness the skills of some of the best wood carvers in Ireland.

This year’s show was the third iteration of the event, which took place over the final weekend in August.

Heavy rainfall did not deter the large crowds, who were treated to the magnificent craftsmanship of people such as Eoin Reardon, Jack Pilson and Michael Pollerton, as well as members of the Saw Millers Guild, the south-east chapter of the Woodturners Guild and many more.

The Celtic Chainsaw Carvers also proved extremely popular with visitors, thanks to their sculptures, which included a dragon and a giant.

The on-site craft village featured a wide range of crafts and demonstrations for patrons, as well as specialist plant stands for horticultural enthusiasts.

Live music on Saturday was provided by New Ross singer-songwriter Hugh Miller and The Nomads, also from New Ross, while Sunday’s entertainment featured the Waterford Choir Group and The Rower’s own Nothing’s Perfect.

The organisers thank the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Kilkenny Co Council and the Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum team for their support.
