THE YOUNG man who was involved in the single-person e-scooter accident in Graiguecullen on Tuesday, 7 July, was identified in Carlow District Court today as Jack Doyle.

Jack was supposed to attend a hearing in Carlow District Court today, 9 July, but his solicitor Chris Hogan told the court that his client had been the man who was seriously injured in Tuesday’s accident. Mr Hogan said that he had been in contact with Jack’s mother, who had told him that Jack was in hospital in intensive care and on life support.

While Mr Hogan acknowledged that Jack had had past run-ins with the law, he expressed great sadness about Jack’s condition, particularly as, according to Mr Hogan, Jack had recently been “getting his life on track”.

Judge Geraldine Carthy was visibly shocked and moved by the news and ordered the charge against Jack to be struck out, with liberty for the charge to be re-entered under ordinary circumstances.
