Corey is nominated for Apprentice of the Year

Carlow apprentice Corey Walker of Allotec Facades has been nominated for a prestigeous Apprentice of the Year award 2024

THE National Apprenticeship Office showcased some of the stories of the 400 outstanding young people nominated for the Generation Apprenticeship ‘Apprentice of the Year Awards’ 2024, including Carlow’s own Corey Walker.

Excelling in his metal fabrication apprenticeship, Corey is among the gifted nominees on the shortlist for apprentice of the year.

“I am incredibly grateful to be nominated for the Apprentice of the Year Award. The acknowledgement for my work motivates me to improve even more,” he said.

Corey is an apprentice at glass and glazing firm Alutec Facades on the Hacketstown Road in Carlow, where he has taken on the responsibility of looking after and guiding other employees. He’s been praised for his willingness to “jump in and work in any situation”.

As part of the awards process, nominees get the chance to participate in the Heroes showcase at WorldSkills Ireland in the RDS, Dublin on Wednesday and Thursday 25-26 September. Corey is one of the guest speakers taking to the stage, where he’ll talk about his work in Alutec Facades.

Now in its third year, the prestigious awards showcase Ireland’s 27,500-strong community of apprentices for outstanding leadership, teamwork, creativity and problem-solving.

Corey and the other nominees will face an independent panel of judges later in October, while they will be invited to a spectacular awards ceremony in Dublin on 23 October. Generation Apprenticeship will bring people together for an incredible celebration of the exciting and rewarding careers and possibilities that come with an apprenticeship.
