CARLOW WRITER Sue Faulkner recently won the ‘Best Short Film Screenplay’ gong at the prestigious Fabrique du Cinema awards in Rome.

at the Fabrique du Cinema awards in December. Sue and her husband Peter attended the awards ceremony in Cinema Nuovo Olimpia, Rome on 17 December, where her award for her short film screenplay was announced.Sue describes
as a “lighthearted comedy heist”. The screenplay follows three teenage girls who organise a robbery to steal back a ring. Despite careful planning, things begin to unravel when one of the girls is forced to bring her nerdy younger cousin along to the heist. As a new writer, Sue is beyond delighted with her success at the 2024 Fabrique du Cinema awards.
Sue has had both poetry and flash fiction published in recent years, with her previous short film script
longlisted for the 2023 UK Film Festival.Sue’s work often falls into the sci-fi genre, with her own unique genre of ‘nerd fiction’ popping in. She hopes to build on last year’s success and is currently looking for an agent or production company to turn her script into a film.
