The trio are to be sent forward for trial on indictment

A MAN who was detected driving at a speed of 177km/h along the motorway in Laois with two children unrestrained in his car, was sentenced to four months imprisonment when his case came before last week’s sitting of the District Court in Portlaoise.

When he got to his destination, the defendant got from the car, made off without paying the €100 fare and ran through a housing estate.

A CARLOW woman who was caught speeding at 181kph in Laois has kept her driving licence, after paying €5,000 to a hospice.

“You clearly have an issue with alcohol,” the judge told the 39-year old woman.

A MAN was brought before a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court this morning charged with offences relating to a message he allegedly posted on his social media page.

‘This person inflicted significant distress and fear through his targeted and deliberate harassment, including coming to my workplace and issuing threats, and attempted to damage my personal and professional reputation.'

A LOCAL man claimed that he was stripped naked by gardaí while being searched in a cell at Portlaoise Garda Station following his arrest for engaging in disorderly conduct.

A MOTORIST stopped by gardaí in Mountmellick who was sweating profusely was subsequently found to have been drug-driving.

The court heard that gardaí received a call about a woman acting erratically in the foyer of the hotel.
