Three facing charges of theft from Iarnród Éireann totalling €138k

THE Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that three men are to be sent forward for trial on indictment on a combined total of 50 counts of alleged thefts of a total of €138,063.04 from Iarnród Éireann.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby asked Judge Susan Fay at last week’s sitting of the District Court in Portlaoise to adjourn the case so that books of evidence can be served on the three accused.
Before the court were Ken Corcoran (52) from 1 Barrow Vale, Graiguecullen, Carlow. He is charged with 25 counts of stealing property, all money, amounting to €69,031.52 from Iarnród Éireann within the state between 20 December 2017 to 16 September 2019.
Nigel Crosby (48) from 1 Nuenna Court, Freshford, Kilkenny. He is charged with nine of the same offences totalling €24,735.01 on dates between 20 December 2017 to 13 September 2019.
Eoin Shortt (49) from Saundersgrove Hill, Baltinglass, Wicklow is charged with 11 counts of the same offences involving €44,296.51 on dates between 5 February 2018 to 16 September 2019.
Judge Fay granted free legal aid to Mr Corcoran. Mr Crosby did not seek free legal aid, while the judge reserved her decision on granted free legal aid to Mr Shortt after she was informed that he earns €6,000 in salary a month.
She went on to remand all three accused on their own bail for service of books of evidence on 17 November.
