THE scheme to access compensation for homeowners in County Carlow whose properties have been affected by pyrite will launch on 10 November.

The news was announced during October’s meeting of Carlow County Council when cllr Daniel Pender asked Coilín O’Reilly, CEO, what the status of the scheme was.

Mr O’Reilly said that the council had been in contact with Mayo County Council which already have a compensation scheme in place and have been “extremely helpful”.

“They have a really good system in operation and I am not ashamed to admit that we have taken their system and their papers and we are revamping it and we are going to roll out the exact same system,” Mr O’Reilly said.

He confirmed that the council has already been in contact with the six property owners in the county whose properties are contaminated with pyrite.

Director of services Pádraig O’Gorman confirmed that paperwork for homeowners to join the scheme was being sent out on 10 November.
