A WOMAN who was drunk and attempted to slide down the banisters of the stairs in the Midland Park Hotel in Portlaoise pleaded guilty to being intoxicated when she appeared at the local district court.
Before the court was 27-year-old Michaela Connolly, Clogheen, Monasterevin, Co Kildare.
The offence took place in the hotel on 22 January.
The court heard that gardaí received a call about a woman acting erratically in the foyer of the hotel. When they arrived at the scene, they came across Ms Connolly is a very drunken state and attempting to slide down the banisters of the hotel stairs from the first floor.
Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said that on the night his client had been invited to her cousin’s 30th birthday party and that her cousin’s family had bought drink for her and she “overindulged”.
Mr Meagher said: “When Michaela is sober, she couldn't be more polite and courteous.”
Judge Andrew Cody noted: “She clocked up 19 convictions in a six months, 17 of these for public order and for intoxication.”
He convicted Ms Connolly of the offence and gave her six months to pay a €200 fine.
He also granted free legal aid.
