A GROUP of local teenagers spent a productive mid-term break gaining the skills and experience to become future leaders in the community.
The group took part in Community Roots a Youth Leadership Programme, which took place in Carlow County Council buildings during the February mid-term break. The initiative welcomed 16- to 18-year-olds who, over a three-day programme, completed certified first-aid training, certified manual handling training, leadership and team-building training and activities, a variety of workshops and a political day trip to visit Leinster House with a tour of the Dáil.

At the recent meeting of Carlow Municipal District, mayor cllr Fintan Phelan presented each of the participants with a certificate for their engagement in the programme.
“I’m glad you have come into our meeting today to see the projects we are working on and the passion our seven members here have for the various plans we have for the future of Carlow. You are the future and perhaps some of you in the future may be sitting around this table,” he said.
“Congratulations for taking part in the programme,” added mayor Phelan.
