Honours even in enthralling local derby match

CK United’s U15’s drew with their Wexford counterparts on Saturday afternoon in a pulsating, enthralling local derby. It was an open ended game with chances at both ends. There’s nothing separating the two sides in the table and that was the case in the match too. Neither side really managed to seize the advantage.
A scoreless first half grew into a cracking second half as CK responded to a Wexford penalty to level up the game. Both sides have won just one game so far in Tier Two, but you wouldn’t have known looking at the game.
CK went close early on as Jamaal Jalil-Adekoge whipped in a cross from the right but a header was missed in the middle. Kacper Futoma should have given them the lead with an effort from the left but he was denied only by a fantastic save from the Wexford ‘keeper. Just after the half hour mark, Daniel O’Connell went close with an effort from the right but could only guide it just wide and over the bar.
CK should have taken the lead when Fiacc O’Rourke, son of Carlow League player Brian, found himself in space down the left and got in behind the defence with only the ‘keeper to beat but managed to steer it wide on the left instead. Eoin Reynolds had an effort saved by Micheal Breagan in the CK goal. Just before half-time, Ryan Finnegan’s free from the left found Hugo Morris but his effort was saved by Breagan. Mael O’Rock whose brother Axel plays with the U20’s had an effort saved.
O’Rourke found himself in space down the right just at the start of the second half but hit it wide across the box.
Wexford took the lead nine minutes into the second half from the penalty spot. Dylan Rossiter dispatched his effort to the right of the ‘keeper, sending Breagan the wrong way. Hugo Morris went close to doubling the Wexford lead when he found himself in space down the right but slid his effort into the side netting.
CK levelled as the game neared its conclusion. Daniel Harrison’s effort from the left was initially saved by the Wexford ‘keeper and with the loose ball hanging in the air afterwards, Kacper Futoma was the fastest to react and headed the ball in.
Jakub Bochnak tried an effort from distance in an attempt to catch the Wexford ‘keeper out but could only steer it wide on the right hand side.
At the death, a great break saw Harrison race into space down the left and put in a ball for Tire Adeleye, whose brother Timmy is playing for the senior team, but his attempt just narrowly missed the top left hand corner of the goal for what would have certainly been a spectacular way to win the game. Alex Kelliher’s brother Robbie fired an effort goalwards but saw his effort saved by Breagan.
