CK part ways with O’Connor and Quinn after inaugural National League campaign Harry Shorthose CK United have confirmed that they have decided to part ways with their senior management team of Tom O’Connor and James Quinn after the club’s inaugural National League campaign. In a statement released to The Nationalist this morning, the club decided to part ways with their management team after a comprehensive end of season review with a change in direction deemed necessary to support their long-term ambitions.

The statement from the CK Untited Management Board read:

“Following a comprehensive end-of-season review by the senior management of CK United, we have made the decision to implement a change in the management structure of our Men's First Team ahead of the 2027 National League season.

“We would like to sincerely thank Tom and James for their hard work, commitment and dedication in assembling our first-ever senior men's squad and leading the team throughout its inaugural campaign. Their contribution to this important chapter in the club's history is greatly appreciated.

“Following our review, it was felt that a change in direction was necessary to support the club's long-term ambitions and objectives. We remain firmly committed to building on the strong foundations established this season and believe the squad has the potential to compete for promotion to the First Division in 2027.

“The process of appointing a new management team is currently underway, and we hope to make an announcement in the coming days.” The decision comes despite a promising season where they finished second in their group with four wins, two draws and two defeats. They were also the only side to take points off the top side in the group, Villa FC. The management duo faced the tough challenge of building a squad from scratch to be able to compete in the side’s maiden campaign and had a relatively successful season.

Speaking to The Nationalist, O’Connor said he was disappointed to not get to continue in his role, believing that he and Quinn overachieved in their roles in what was always going to be a difficult challenge.

“From my perspective, I’m proud of what was achieved at CK United this season. We came in with clear objectives, worked hard to establish the first team, assembled a squad, back round team, installed high standards and, I believe, delivered more than was initially expected of us. The progress made by the players and the foundations laid over the course of the season were a real positive.

“Naturally, I’m disappointed not to be involved next season, as I felt there was more to build on, but I understand that clubs make decisions about their future direction and you have to respect that.” He went on to wish the club the best of luck going forward and thanked them for their hard work.

“I’m grateful to the players and staff, especially James for their commitment throughout the campaign and wish everyone at CK United well going forward. Hopefully, the work put in this year will give the club something solid to build on for the seasons ahead.”
