Classic and vintage tractors and cars roll out for Ardattin jaunt

Brian Sheehan, Margaret O'Neill, Helena McCartney, Debbie Doyle, Pat Abbey and Angela Nichol celebrate a birthday in style!

THERE was a great turnout in Ardattin on Sunday July 19 for the annual summer tractor run, organised by the Ardattin Fundraisers group.

On what was a blisteringly hot day, about 30 tractors from all eras and ten vintage cars took part in the run.

Numbers were slightly down on previous year’s iteration of the run as local farmers made best use of the terrific spell of dry weather to get the corn cut and hay made. However, a great number of vintage vehicle fans and their families came out to show their support for such a worthy cause.

The convoy set off on its journey from the carpark beside Ardattin National School around midday to tour around the roads of Tullow before returning to the starting point.

This left plenty of time for all in attendance to get fed and watered by the Mellett family at the Ardattin Inn before settling in to watch the All-Ireland Hurling Final between Limerick and Galway.

“The committee would just like to thank the Mellett family, Gerry, Margaret and their son Gerard in the Ardattin Inn for supplying the food for everyone on the day,” said committee member, Teresa Mannering.

One of the most eye-catching participants in the run was a refurbished 1965 Triumph TL3 in red, owned by Jasper Butler and driven on the day by his parents Pam and Tom, while Debbie Doyle celebrated her 50th birthday weekend on her vintage Massey Ferguson 50, complete with birthday balloons.

The Ardattin Fundraisers was formed around ten years ago and has been raising money for Carlow/Kilkenny Homecare Team and other local causes throughout that time.
