Pas de Panique — Visually Striking Non-Verbal Theatre Comes to Carlow This March

Pas de Panique

Audiences are invited to step into a world of masked figures, physical storytelling and playful philosophy when Pas de Panique arrives at VISUAL Carlow on Sunday 22 March at 3pm. Presented by emerging Catalan-Irish theatre company Can ai Gó, this one-hour, non-verbal performance promises a bold and accessible theatrical experience for audiences of all ages.

Pas de Panique is a visually arresting masked theatre piece that follows a group of tall, austere characters as they grapple with the great mysteries of existence. In their quest to uncover the “Why of it all,” these figures gently parody The Big Questions, uncovering moments of meaning, absurdity and revelation in the most unexpected places. Without spoken language, the performance relies on expressive physical theatre, precise movement and striking imagery to communicate ideas that resonate universally.

Drawing on traditions of physical and visual theatre, Pas de Panique explores existentialism and the human condition through contrasts of fear and ecstasy in their most extreme forms. Moments of tension sit alongside humour and wonder, creating a rich theatrical landscape that is at once thought-provoking and deeply entertaining. Its non-verbal nature makes the work especially inclusive, inviting audiences of different ages, backgrounds and languages to engage on equal terms.

The performance runs for approximately one hour and is suitable for all audiences, making it an ideal introduction to contemporary physical theatre for families as well as seasoned theatre-goers.

Can ai Gó was founded by Ellen Finnerty and Hug Casals, who met while training at the internationally renowned Jacques Lecoq school in Paris. After several years living and working in France, the duo has now based the company in Ireland, bringing together Catalan and Irish influences with a shared commitment to visual storytelling, ensemble work and imaginative stagecraft.

Pas de Panique at VISUAL Carlow offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience an emerging company at an exciting early stage, presenting a piece that balances philosophical depth with visual playfulness.
