A PRESENTATION on the history of the post office service in Carlow will be held in the Seven Oaks Hotel for heritage week. Public relations officer of Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society (CHAS) Paul Curran will deliver the talk, having conducted extensive research into the history of the service’s impact on the county.
The service was known as the Posts and Telegraphs or the P&T before it was broken down into An Post and the ESB,
The presentation will take place on Monday 17 August at 8pm and will look at the service throughout the 20th century, incorporating the stories of people who worked in different roles in the service, such as telegram boys, telephone and engineering staff and the other postal workers.
The talk will also look at the significant part that rural post offices played in serving the villages and towns of the county and is open to all members of the public, including those who used to work for the post service.
