FROM first notes to full performances, the story of Music Generation Carlow is playing out on the walls of Carlow town library and the public is invited to experience it.
The exhibition opened on Tuesday 28 April in the Shaw Room of Carlow town library and will run for three weeks. It brings together photography and video from the programme’s work since 2013, charting the growth of what has become one of the county’s most significant youth arts initiatives.

The launch event featured live performances by young musicians and marked the beginning of a wider programme of workshops and events running alongside the exhibition in the coming weeks.
Music Generation is Ireland’s national performance music education programme, designed to give children and young people aged 0-18 years access to high-quality, affordable music education in their communities.

Music development officer Gavin Barr, who has been involved with Music Generation Carlow since its foundation, said the exhibition offers a chance to reflect on the journey of the programme.
“I have loved being part of Music Generation Carlow since it began in 2013,” he said. “It is incredibly rewarding to see how the programme has grown and the impact it has had in our schools, communities and ensemble programmes. Looking back has reminded me of all the creativity, collaboration and sense of community that has always been at the heart of what we do. We’re really looking forward to sharing these moments with the people of Carlow and celebrating the talent that continues to emerge from MGC.”

The exhibition pays tribute not only to the young people who have participated in the programme but also to the musician educators and wider community supporters who have helped shape it over the years.
A series of ‘come and try’ events and interactive workshops will also take place during the three-week run, made possible through Creative Ireland Carlow funding.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Music Generation Carlow is also accepting applications for its upcoming term in September.
