Summer camps as Gaeilge

GLÓR Cheatharlach is again putting on a range of summer events and camps as Gaeilge for infants up to third-year students.

The coláiste samhraidh/summer college for teenagers will run for one week from Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July from 9.30am to 3pm daily. The course is aimed at students starting fifth class to third year in September and offers a taste of the Gaeltacht experience without leaving home.

This intensive Irish course will be based at Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach in Askea, where full use of the school’s facilities will be available. Classes will be split into two age groups and led by two experienced, fully-qualified Irish teachers. The course content will include lessons and fun activities, as well as language games, role play, sports and songs, all conducted as Gaeilge.

The course fee is €125, with a 10% discount for siblings. A deposit of €50 is necessary to reserve a place. Anyone interested in taking part is advised to enrol as soon as possible as numbers are limited.

For next year’s junior and senior infants, the four-day Campa na nÓg is a fun mini-camp as Gaeilge. It will run from 6-9 July and will be based Áras na nÓg, Éire Óg. The €55 fee will also cover the cost of a local outing.

The popular as Gaeilge summer camp for primary school children, campa samhraidh ̓26, will be held from 13-16 July from 10am to 2pm daily. Tuesday will involve a late afternoon until 4pm to facilitate a mystery day trip. It will be run in Gaelscoil Cheatharlach and is open to children from all primary schools who will be in first to fourth class in September.

The fee of €75 will cover all activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, the cinema and a day trip. This camp is always fully booked, so places should be reserved as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
