MORE than 200 people packed into St Tegan’s Hall in Kiltegan on Thursday 3 July for the village’s second annual super variety show, which sold out well in advance of the event.

Organised by John Lennon and the Kiltegan Hall Committee, the fundraising show featured an eclectic mix of musical acts spanning country, traditional Irish, Ukrainian folk and bluegrass styles.
The diverse line-up included Eimear Casey, Jorum, Peter, Paul & John, Joanne Daly, Joe Faulkner, Toby and Zara, the Ukrainian Ladies, Vintage 45s and Johnny Gleeson.

The evening’s special guest was Kiltegan native Dave Lofts, a rising star who performed with The Wolfe Tones as a support act this past weekend. According to hall secretary Siobhan Farrell, Lofts captivated the audience during one of his performances, creating such a spellbound atmosphere that “you could have heard a pin drop”.
“The calibre of musicians that John brought to the stage on the night was fabulous,” said Ms Farrell. “It was a full house with a mix of all ages coming from Kiltegan and the surrounding areas.”

John Lennon served as both organiser and master of ceremonies for the evening, which raised funds for the upkeep of the community hall. The event also featured a large raffle, with prizes donated by committee members and local sponsors.

Technical support was provided by Ciaran Fitzgerald and his team, who handled sound and lighting for the show. Siobhan praised the community spirit that made the event possible, noting the contribution of volunteers and the strong local support.

“There’s just something special about the Kiltegan community,” Ms Farrell said. “When you put on anything, they come out in force.”
The success of this year’s variety show demonstrates the growing popularity of the annual fundraising event since its inception last year.
