CARLOW County Childcare Committee will hold a consultation later this month to hear views from the public on what is working well and what needs to change in early learning and care provision in Ireland.

The event, which takes place in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel on Tuesday 28 April from 7-9pm, will be held in partnership with the Department of Children, Disability and Equality. The department has organised 51 such local consultation events across Ireland in April as part of a national conversation on education.

Participants will join small table groups focusing on three core themes: accessibility, affordability and quality. They will be able to identify priorities for future investment and improvement in the childcare and early learning system.

Manager of the Carlow Childcare Committee, Áine Gahan, encouraged everyone to take part and noted: “By sharing your experiences and insights, you can directly shape Shaping the Future and the successor to the government’s strategy for babies, young children and their families.”

The purpose of the event is to ensure the voices of parents, early years educators, school-age childcare practitioners, childminders, providers and communities shape national policy. As part of the conversation, the department conducted a national online survey which received almost 12,000 responses, a representative survey of 500 households and a consultation exercise with children and is planning a national forum event in June.

Those interested in taking part in the Carlow event can book a place online at gov.ie/LetsTalkEarlyYears.
