Let’s Talk Memory meeting today at Carlow library

CARLOW County Council Library Service, in association with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI), are presenting a new monthly information morning called Let’s Talk Memory, supporting those with dementia, their families, carers and communities.

The first drop-in meeting will take place today, Tuesday 25 August between 11am and 1pm. People are invited to talk about their experience with dementia, their concerns and needs.

“We are delighted to partner with ASI on this much-needed community initiative,” said Fiona O’Toole, Healthy Ireland co-ordinator. “The library prides itself on being an accessible, safe space for all, which provides reliable public health information.” Yvonne Leahy, dementia advisor for ASI, added: “There are over 600 people living with dementia in Carlow town, with an estimated 3,000 people across County Carlow affected when families and carers are included. This initiative responds directly to this local need by delivering accessible, community-based education and engagement.” Cllr Paul Doogue has also been involved with ASI staff to make Carlow a dementia-friendly town in the last few months. “The Let’s Talk Memory initiative is another key component in my aim to make Carlow a dementia-friendly town. I thank the Carlow businesses that I have visited along with ASI as part of this. They have been so supportive, with many of them having also completed the free dementia awareness course.” No booking is required to attend Let’s Talk Memory, so just drop in between 11am and 1pm on the last Tuesday of every month.
