Fodder clinic at Oak Park tomorrow

TEAGASC is hosting a fodder clinic in Carlow tomorrow (Wednesday) to assist farmers in planning for winter feeding following the summer drought.

The clinic is being held at Oak Park and will be conducted over morning and afternoon sessions, the first from 10am to 1pm and the second from 2-4pm.

There will also be a clinic at the same time tomorrow in Tinahely, while more are being held in Mullinavat and Kilkenny on Friday.

Head of advisory services at Teagasc, Thomas Curran, said: “These clinics are part of the ongoing Teagasc advisory effort to support farmers in planning their feed and fodder requirements for the remainder of 2026 and the spring of 2027. Taking action early will help individual farmers to make the best decisions for their farm enterprises.” Teagasc also conducted a series of webinars and provided practical advice last week for farmers in the regions most severely impacted by the drought, where advisers offered guidance on fodder budgeting, formulating diets and more.

Manager of the Laois/Kildare/Offaly advisory region, Sandra Hayes, urged farmers to contact Teagasc with any queries they have regarding the impact the drought is having on their farm.

“Our advisers are available to help farmers plan for the months ahead and into the winter. We urge those coming to the clinics to bring details of their existing fodder stocks on farm and the number of livestock expected to be on the farm over the next nine months so that a fodder plan can be put in place,” Ms Hayes said.
