Baltinglass library to host exhibition of vintage photos

BALTINGLASS is set to turn back the clock for this year’s heritage week when the local library unveils an exhibition of vintage photographs showcasing the town’s historic landmarks, commercial buildings and natural landscape.
Taking place on Tuesday 18 August, the exhibition will offer a unique glimpse into Baltinglass’s rich past, featuring cherished images of the town’s evolving streetscape and scenic surroundings.
The exhibition is a celebration of local history, made possible through the generosity of residents and businesses who donated their treasured family photographs.
Following the exhibition, the Economic and Tourism Town Teams, a subgroup of the local tidy towns group, will host a guided walk offering people the rare opportunity to explore the cells of the historic Baltinglass courthouse. This behind-the-scenes tour promises to be a highlight of the event, bringing the town’s legal and social history to life.
The group plans to develop a permanent heritage trail for the town in the near future. They hope to incorporate some of the photographs featured in the exhibition into this project, ensuring the town’s rich history is accessible to locals and visitors for years to come.
The event organisers extend thanks to local residents and businesses for their photographic donations, as well as West Wicklow Historical Society (WWHS), Baltinglass tidy towns, Baltinglass Library Service and Wicklow Co Council Heritage Office for their assistance in bringing this event to the community.
The exhibition is open from 7pm, with the tour of the courthouse starting at 7.15pm.
All are welcome to attend to rediscover the history of Baltinglass and refreshments will be served.
