Film maker John Hughes is rainsing funds for his first production

A YOUNG filmmaker is appealing to the public to support his new project and has set up a Kickstarter account so that people may donate to the cause.

Although only 22 years’ old, John Hughes already has one feature film under his belt and is now raising funds to help him create a second movie. John set up his film company Parkmore Studios, named after the area in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow where he’s from, and has been successfully making commercial videos, short films and promos since 2021. Two years after setting up his fledgling company, John decided to take a step into the unknown to make his first feature film called The fuel of youth.

With great support from a wonderful cast and crew of volunteers, John finally got the film into the can and hopes to have it screened later this year. Now he has his sights set on a second film, Happy hour, a story that explores a deep yearning for freedom and the fear of never escaping a rural setting, of being bound by familiarity and expectation.

John has been busy over the past few months in pre-production and now it’s time for him to fundraise to get the film rolling, so he’s appealing to the public for their support.

“The film has brought together a passionate and talented group of filmmakers primarily from Carlow, West Wicklow and Kildare. United by a love for storytelling and a drive to bring fresh, authentic voices to the screen, we are working hard to gain exposure in the industry,” said John.

“Most of us come from rural communities and we have to deal with the challenges of being outside the usual filmmaking hubs. Investing in this project is not just supporting a single film, it's helping to elevate a growing community of emerging filmmakers, giving us the platform that we need to break through and share our stories with a wider audience.” As Happy hour involves much more acting parts than the last production, more crew members are also needed. The calls on social media for cast and crew received a surprising and encouraging response from talented volunteers in Wicklow, Carlow, Kildare and Wexford.

Every penny donated to the film will be spent carefully, with funding going towards transport costs, catering, costumes, other resources and, eventually, post-production.
