Lawler qualifies for 200m semi-finals at European Athletics Championships

Carlow’s Marcus Lawler has qualified for this evening’s 200m semi-finals at the European Athletics Championships following a strong showing in this morning’s Round 1 heats in Birmingham.
Lawler ran in the second of the three heats and finished fifth but his time of 20.94 was the 11th fastest and with the 13 fastest runners going through, he made the cut.
This evening’s session and the European Championships is shaping up to be an exciting one for Irish athletics with Rhasidat Adeleke and Mark English carrying genuine medal hopes in the finals of the women’s 200m and men’s 800m respectively, and Lawler has booked his place on the card.
Lawler’s 200m metre semi-final is due to take place at 8.05pm this evening.
