Ballinabranna estate to be completed after two decades

A housing estate in Ballinabranna that has remained half-completed for nearly two decades will soon be rejuvenated after Carlow County Council granted planning permission for 31 new houses.
The Gort na Gréine housing estate will grow by 31 homes, with nine new three-bedroom homes to be located in the existing estate. There will be 22 houses in a new area of the estate, with three-, four- and five-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, a sensory play area, and public open space.
The developer, Cieval Limited, originally received permission in 2006 to build a total of 82 houses, but only 42 of these were constructed and sold due to financial constraints after the 2008 financial crash. The last of the existing houses was completed in 2010.
Ballinabranna-based councillor Daniel Pender said the decision “means a lot to me personally as it’s my own home village”.
“My hope is that these houses will give young people from Ballinabranna and the surrounding area the chance to buy a home and stay in the place they grew up, rather than having to move away,” said Cllr Pender.
