Tullow's aging water mains get modern makeover

Uisce Eireann is to begin the work shortly
SHORT-TERM pain will result in long-term gain for the people of Tullow, according to Uisce Éireann, as the company embarks on replacing 2.1km of aging water mains with new, modern pipes.
In a statement this week, Uisce Éireann insisted that customers in Tullow can look forward to a ‘more secure and reliable supply of drinking water in 2025 once the mains replacement works are completed’.
The works, which will begin in the coming weeks, are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme and involve the replacement of more than 2.1km of aging water mains with new, modern pipes. Crews will be carrying out works on a phased basis in the town centre, starting on Mill Street Lower, working towards Mill Street Upper, then along Church Street, The Course/Crosskeys, Old Chapel Lane, Bishop’s Street and John’s Street.
The company stated that areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of a stop/go system and some road closures will be in place during these periods of work. Local and emergency traffic access will always be maintained.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge and are expected to be completed by this September.
