CARLOW-BASED singer Tatyana Dougherty has released her first single Angel in Our Hearts in honour of her late daughter Aoife. The song explores Tatyana’s grief in what she calls “a deeply personal journey of love, loss and healing”.

Tatyana, originally from Bulgaria, moved to Ireland in 2014, where she met her husband Ciaran Dougherty and settled down in her ‘forever home’. In 2018, Tatyana lost her daughter Aoife.

She told The Nationalist: “During this time, I wrote a song, Angel in Our Hearts, which was inspired by the love and memories I hold for Aoife. I even completed the music for it, but the courage to finish the project was something I could not find for years.

“As time went by, every other project I started seemed to always circle back to her, and eventually I realised that I needed to let go.

“Last October, I finally completed Aoife’s gravestone and it was at that moment that I found the strength to finish what I had started all those years ago. It became clear to me that sharing my grief, my story and my love for her could be a source of comfort for others who are also struggling with loss.”

Tatyana worked with Chris Ward from Flash Studio Music and Sebastian Litwiński of Perchhouse Productions to create a music video for the single.

Tatyana continued: “This song is more than just a tribute to my daughter; it’s a message to everyone who has experienced pain and loss: it’s okay to grieve, it’s okay to cry and it’s okay to hurt.

“People often say that, with time, the pain gets easier, but the truth is, every day without Aoife has been harder than the last. Grief does not have a timeline. But through this song, I hope others find the courage to talk about their loved ones who are no longer with us. Our loved ones may be gone physically, but they are always with us in our hearts.

“Please know that when you listen to this song, you are not alone in your pain. Many of us walk this path together. You don’t have to carry it in silence.”
