A LAW student from SETU Carlow took a remarkable initiative to raise awareness about autistic people in education while also raising funds for the autism charity AsIAm.

Inspired by a passion for inclusivity and advocacy, Ned Fleming has just published a booklet called Hands Up to raise awareness about the challenges autistic people face in educational settings, as well as ways to foster a more understanding and supportive learning environment. Through this initiative, he not only highlighted important issues but also provided practical insights and information to promote inclusivity within the community.

Ned, from Carlow town, was mentored by fellow student Evelyn Cooper, who last year led a successful fundraising campaign for Breast Cancer Ireland through her Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy cookbook.

The success of this project was made possible by support from the SETU community. A huge thank you goes out to the Hands Up project team of Ned Fleming, Evelyn Cooper, Erika Rechtackova, Mary Boylan, Zaid Elkhazendar, Ronan Brennan, Conor Moriarty and Manuel Lopes, as well as several staff members.

Just over €1,025 was raised from the sale of the booklet, which will go to AsIAm.
