St Leo’s College scoops first place in UCD public speaking contest

Congratulations to Sienna Smith, Hanora O'Driscoll and Sinead Tomaszewska from St Leo's College, Carlow, who won the under-15 public speaking competition in Galway
THREE eloquent young women from St Leo’s College, Carlow have just scooped first prize in a public speaking competition.
Hanora O’Driscoll, Sienna Smith and Sinéad Tomaszewska were awarded Best Team at the UCD Women Graduates’ Association under-15 public speaking competition. Liliane Picovici also attended as a substitute.
First-year students Amelia Heslin, Anna O’Sullivan and Ava Knowles also delivered excellent speeches, which were engaging, well-crafted and humorous and should be very proud of their performances. They were exceptionally well presented.
The girls had 30 minutes to write a speech on an unseen topic from one of the following themes – media and entertainment, climate change and the environment, road safety and science and technology – and then deliver it to an assembled audience in University College Dublin.
Special thanks to teacher and mentor Seán O’Flaherty and the student coaches who trained all six speakers – Emily Wall, Giovanna Vieira and Faye Brennan – all previous winners of various public speaking competitions. They were so generous to give of their free time at lunchtimes and after school to pass on their acquired presentation skills and competition experience to the younger students, who benefited tremendously from their input.
