ST FIACC’S National School is celebrating a remarkable double victory after both of its quiz teams secured first place at the regional stage of the 2025 Credit Union Schools Quiz.
The event was held on Friday 7 March and brought together schools from across Kilkenny and Carlow to battle for a spot at the prestigious national finals. This marks the second year in a row that St Fiacc’s will represent Carlow Credit Union on the national stage.
“The school quiz is broken up into two categories, under-13 and under-11, and each school is allowed to enter one team per category,” said Lee Mulhall, marketing and business development officer for Carlow District Credit Union.
“St Fiacc’s came out on top in both our local quiz and then again in the regional one. It’s brilliant for the kids, and now they’re heading to the national finals.”
The Credit Union Schools Quiz, now running for over three decades, annually attracts more than 25,000 students nationwide. Competition rounds are spread out over an hour-and-a-half, with entrants tackling general knowledge questions spanning multiple subjects.
After local (stage 1) and regional (stage 2) eliminations, winning teams proceed to the national finals (stage 3), which will be held on Sunday 6 April in the RDS, Dublin. It’s a high-profile event with well-known personalities hosting and up to €1,000 in prize money on offer.
“Congratulations to St Fiacc’s,” said Mr Mulhall.
“They’re reaching the national finals again and it’s brilliant.”
For anyone hoping to follow in their footsteps, schools can take an online quiz on the Credit Union website to gauge their readiness before officially entering.
