Shock at sudden death of Carlow County Museum curator
The late Dermot Mulligan
The communities in County Carlow and beyond are in shock at the sudden and unexpected death of Dermot Mulligan.
Dermot was the much-respected curator of Carlow County Museum who was well known for his in depth knowledge of the county’s history.
He passed away, unexpectedly, at St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny on Sunday 31 May.
His death was officially announced this afternoon, much to the shock of the very many people who knew him.
Residing in Paulstown, Dermot was predeceased by his father Patrick and brother Fergal, and was the dearly loved husband of Grace.
His death notice on RIP.ie Carlow said: ‘Forever loved and sadly missed by his heartbroken wife, mother Johanna (Joan), sister Mary, uncles, aunts, cousins, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, colleagues, relatives and friends.
The notice also said: ‘St Willibrord, Disciple of Christ, pray for him’ as Dermot was one of the key people who pioneered the history of the previously little known saint associated with County Carlow.
His family has asked the people make a donation to the Irish Heart Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
Funeral arrangements will be confirmed on Wednesday evening.
